The William T. Kemper Foundation, Commerce Bank-Trustee, has pledged $20,000 to the Dirksen Congressional Center's Capital Campaign

Pekin, IL - August 13, 2003 - In a commitment to improving civic literacy in the United States, the William T. Kemper Foundation, Commerce Bank-Trustee, has pledged $20,000 to the Dirksen Congressional Center's Capital Campaign.

"We are honored to contribute to the community through the Dirksen Center, and we are pleased to fund a program that provides such enriching learning opportunities," said Joe Henderson, Peoria Community Bank President.

The pledge to the Dirksen Congressional Center will help fund the construction of The Center's new 5,300 square foot building, scheduled to open in early fall. The new building will expand The Center's capacity to store historical materials and provide the means to conduct The Center's research and educational programming. The Center's vacated space will be used by the Pekin Public Library to expand its service to the community.

"The Kemper Foundation and Commerce Bank have long supported our educational programming," said Frank Mackaman, The Center's Executive Director. "By contributing so generously to our new building, they will help us expand our educational services to students and teachers for years to come. We are grateful
