Banking Safely at School

Take extra steps to ensure your financial information is private and secure.

  • Don't write your PIN down or share your PIN with anyone.
  • Make sure to keep all credit or debit cards and checkbooks put away in a safe place.
  • If possible, do your Online Banking while you're alone. If it's not possible to be alone, be sure your information can't be seen by others.
  • If you're using a computer to access your account information, be sure to log off.
  • Watch your mail to make sure your bank statements, and other financial records, arrive when they're expected. If they don't show up, call the bank or the credit card company as soon as possible. Consider signing up for electronic statements.
  • Don't leave any statements or transaction records lying out in the open.
  • Try to conduct any phone business, such as a bank transfer or credit card payment, when you're alone.
  • Report any missing cards or checks as soon as you notice they're gone.
  • Don't let anyone use your credit or debit card.
