Commerce Bank named a Champion of Diversity by KC Chamber

Kansas City, Mo.Commerce Bank was recognized and honored as a leader in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce at the POWER of Diversity Breakfast, held July 20.

Commerce was recognized by the KC Chamber, in part, because of its strong focus on inclusion and sense of belonging. “We are focused on long-term, sustainable ways to be intentional in how we advance our DEI initiatives,” said Felecia Hogan, director of diversity, equity and inclusion. “That includes supporting a work culture where each of us feels safe, heard and valued and has a strong sense of belonging. Because these are the things that matter most. It's a tall order, but we will continue to achieve this progress one day at a time, one person at a time, until it is embedded into our culture.”

Commerce Bank is committed to diversity, sustainability and strong communities. It telegraphs to everyone in the organization that this is a top priority of the bank. Since its first company-wide diversity statement in 2004, the bank has continued to increase investment in DEI initiatives, and in 2020 designated DEI a Corporate Blue Chip — an enterprise-wide priority with pillars that focus both internally (internal and supplier) and externally (customer and community).

“Our work in DEI is not done and we are on a journey,” explained Hogan. “As we say, this is a marathon and not a sprint, but this Champion of Diversity Award is validation that Commerce is on the right path.”

The Champion of Diversity Award recognizes a regional business that has made an impactful commitment to embrace diversity in their workplace, diversity supplier partnerships, and the community. The award winners also demonstrate their organizational practices are inclusive of all people.
