Kansas City, Mo. — A decades-long supporter of the Kansas City Royals, Commerce Bank is pleased to present RoyalsTM Hall of Fame Weekend honoring Bo Jackson, and Former Royals General Managers, John Schuerholz and Cedric Tallis.

Schuerholz and Tallis will be recognized in a pre-game salute on Friday, June 28 and Jackson will be recognized in a special pre-game ceremony on Saturday, June 29. While at the stadium, fans are invited to visit the Royals Hall of Fame presented by Commerce Bank in Kauffman Stadium's Outfield Experience, located inside Gate A on the west side of the ballpark. Guests may enter the Royals Hall of Fame at no charge when the gates open for a game until the top of the 8th inning. On non-game days, the Royals Hall of Fame is part of a Kauffman Stadium Tour.

“We are deeply committed to the Kansas City region, and proud to support one of our hometown teams through Royals Hall of Fame Weekend presented by Commerce Bank,” said Kevin Barth, chairman and CEO of Commerce Bank — Kansas City. “Having served as the ‘Banking Services Provider of the Kansas City Royals’ since the team’s official founding in 1969, this partnership is a reflection of the focus we place on relationships and meeting customers' needs — whether inside the stadium or around the region.”

The Commerce and Royals connection dates back more than seven decades. In 1951, Commerce Bank approved a business loan to the late Ewing Kauffman in support of his Marion Laboratories pharmaceutical startup. Then in 1967, the Kansas City Athletics moved to Oakland, and the American League awarded a franchise opportunity to Kansas City.

Ewing and Muriel Kauffman entered a bid to purchase the franchise. Commerce Bank again supported Kauffman’s vision, this time with a letter of credit to enable him to prove financial capability to the American League. A $100,000 check, issued on Commerce Bank to pay the Royals’ American League membership fee, is featured in the Royals Hall of Fame Museum and recognizes a significant early moment for the franchise.
